Stan Stapp
Columnist: Stan's Lookout
Stan Stapp came to us in March, 1998 after Terry Denton closed down the Seattle Press. Stan comes from a long line of newspaper experience. His amazing wealth of historic knowledge of early Seattle combined with a unique flavorful writing style make him a real asset.

Stan's brother Milton began the North Central Outlook, a weekly community newspaper, sometime in the early 1910s. Stan remembers as a child his mother calling him and his sister in from playing outdoors so they could help run the press. Stan grew up and eventually took over managing the Outlook. After years of dedicated service, Stan finally sold the Outlook to the Today chain of newspapers in 1972. The paper is now owned by Pacific Publishing based in Seattle and has been renamed the "Outlook Herald."

Stan was introduced to Clayton when he began writing a column for the Fremont Forum in October, 1984. Clayton had been running the little paper since March for the Fremont Public Association. The Association turned over ownership to Terry Denton and Roger Pence in 1986, selling the paper to them for the amazing price of $1.00. Denton and Pence changed the name to the North Seattle Press. After twelve years of publishing, Denton sold the paper in May, 1998. Stan currently lives in Wedgwood with his wife Dorothy, a master gardener who is frequently featured in gardening articles.
